The woman looks sad because she may be lonely. She may be sad because the film may be sad too. She may be bored because she doesn't like the movie. She may be nervous because she is an actress and must meet the people after the movie. Maybe her boyfriend didn't show up.

I found the painting sad because there aren't many colors and it is focused on the sad woman. It makes me feel sad because she is alone.
